The Iblea region: an enclave on the island of Sicily, a plateau that is raised above the towns of Syracuse and Noto, and which gently slopes down until it meets the sea on the South and the East.

Only 15 minutes away starts the “string of jewels” that comprises the Baroque towns of Ragusa Ibla, Modica, Scicli, Noto, Ispica, to name but a few, with some of the most exquisite and undiscovered Baroque buildings and churches of Europe. This golden thread of architecture makes for lovely daily excursions and explorations – or simply for a lunch in the sun to taste the delicious local delicacies.
Only a 5-minute drive from Cavalonga, you’ll find the Castello di Donnafugata, together with its restaurant and charming café.
A day trip comprises a wide range of picturesque cities: Syracuse, Agrigento e Selinunte, Piazza Armerina, Catania, Taormina.
You can be back in time for dinner after any of these visits including also Mount Etna and its famous volcano - the only place in Europe where you can ski in the morning and be sailing in the sea in the afternoon.
Sandy beaches
A 15-minute drive will bring you to numerous golden sandy beaches set in
their beautiful coves. This is one of the last undiscovered parts of Europe
where you can drive from Cavalonga and pick and chose your own “private
beach” – perhaps a different one each day! The closest beach
is Kamarina, which takes its name after the ancient Greek which was built
in the area. Punta Secca is a long beach which has become famous in Italy
thanks to the popular TV serial Commissario Moltalbano (Chief Constable
Montalbano). A slightly longer drive will allow you to enjoy the beaches
of Irmino Oasis.
Marina di Ragusa, 40 minutes drive from Cavalonga, is the best known beach resort of the area with a lively night life. Currently the construction of a harbor for sailing and motor boats is being terminated.
From Pozzallo Harbour, 52 km from Cavalonga, you can take a daily hydrofoil to Malta during the Summer season.
Golf
Two golf courses, with 18 and 9 holes, are almost ready just 7 km away from RELAIS PARCO CAVALONGA.
Trekking, Horse riding, and cycling tours can be organized in the areas around Cavalonga or in the nearby Aleppo Pine Nature Reserve.
